Taylor`s Corner

Hi Everyone! Summer’s over and MLB Playoffs are in full swing now.  But wait… the Atlanta Braves are not here? Don't even bother to look. And the San Francisco Giants? Scurried off before them with a resounding whimper. So the two best teams in the National League, record-wise, are nowhere to be found.  That means the NL's representative in the World Series will either be A.) A team that hasn't been to the Series in 95 years or B.) A wild card team that darn near imploded the last time it went to the big show.  The trick for both teams, initially, will be to settle down. They are both one step away from the World Series. Who would've figured that?

NFL regular season is up and running full blast now.  Is it all we’ve expected?  You bet!  Some good teams, some bad teams and some that just have you scratching your head?!  We’ve even had some records broken, thanks to Peyton Manning and a few choice others.  I still can’t believe that spectacular comeback by Indy against Tampa… unbelieveable.  Of course, it’s still a little early to tell who’s going to be wearing the Super Bowl rings this year but it is definitely going to be an exciting journey!

On Wednesday night we begin again the countdown to the Stanley Cup, and it is a Cup with a cloud hanging overhead. The collective bargaining agreement between the NHL and the players ends after this season. Every move on and off the ice will be measured by its impact on a new agreement, or what happens if there is none.  I am one of the few who believe there will be no loss of the 2004-2005 NHL season. There is simply too much to lose on both sides.  The players know how good they have it. They do not want this lifeline ruptured. Players will give in some manner, probably by limiting salaries of entry-level players. A restriction on salaries for a player's first two or three years could also happen.  Either way, NHL hockey will continue in my opinion… what else is there to watch after football is done?
