Taylor`s Corner

Hey everyone!  Well, the chances for an all-canadian final have been dashed, due to Minnesota’s thrashing of Vancouver in Game 7.  But we still have Ottawa to cheer for and I believe they have a very good chance of going all the way this year.  Heck, even Scotty Bowman is favouring the Sens over the Devils… that definitely says a lot coming from someone who won  9 Stanley Cups and 1,244 regular-season games, both records for an NHL coach.  I do think this series will be a hard-fought battle, though… how can it not be at this point in the season?  Now the Mickey/Minnie series…. that’s another matter.  Who would have ever thought that Anaheim and Minnesota would be playing in the finals of the Western Conference?  Not this girl!  I do think this series is pretty evenly matched and should also be a hard–fought battle but my prediction would have to be the Ducks to advance to the Stanley Cup finals.  Can you imagine… a Sens/Ducks final?  Oh, and don’t forget about our boys going for the Gold in Helsinki for the World Hockey Championships… GO CANADA!

Well, well, well…. how proud are we of our local boy, Mike Weir?  A green jacket…a Master’s Champ… one of the most prestigious accomplishments in Professional Golf!  He is having a remarkable year and I don’t think he’s finished just yet. Mike is currently trailing Davis Love III by about $460,000 for first place on the money list and $220,000 ahead of Tiger Woods, who is in third place.  It’s also the first time Woods hasn’t been No. 1 in the money this deep into the season since 2000.  Mike is staying motivated though and already looking ahead.  After all, he’s the only player capable of winning the Grand Slam this year.  All I know is I had goosebumps when I watched him drop the puck at the Leafs game!

And my favorite female golfer, Annika Sorenstam, is set to face the men in two weeks in Fort Worth.  Amazingly, she will donate half of what she earns at the PGA Tour's Colonial tournament to the charities of the LPGA Tour event held the same week. Sorenstam is taking a sponsor's exemption to the men's tournament in Fort Worth May 22-25, making her the first woman to compete on the PGA Tour in 58 years.  Of course, she still has to make the cut to make a donation… but I’m sure women everywhere are going to be rooting her on… YOU GO GIRL!!!
