Tribute to Tom Jones

Reviewer: Aries

Feb 27/2004

We went last night to see the Tribute to Tom Jones. That was the first time I had been out to the Race Track for a concert or to go into the Casino part. My friend, Helen, had not been out there either. We found it very easy to get out there with the free shuttle bus stopping for us on Christina St. close to my apartment (In front of the Tim Horton's).

I found the musician certainly had Tom Jones's type voice and was about to express him very well. I know almost all the song he did, he did some other songs from other artists, on request, such as Paul Anka, and other popular musician of the last 60's and early 70's.  He had no trouble relating to the audience, asking what songs they wanted to hear. After a few Tom Jones
songs he was asking people close to him for any musician's songs, and he got some wild names of previous musicians.  The audience was mostly the older crowd, as what I expected. Helen, my friend, is around 60 and really enjoyed him. The band that he had was very good with a nice large set of drums. Also guitar, bass and keyboard players that were good as well.

We went up to the doors about 8:45 pm and they told us that the doors wouldn't be opening until about 9:00.  We had dinner at home at normal time, and I asked the fellow at the door if we could order food once we went in. I was told, "Oh yes, right at the table" so we waited until going in. After going in a waitress came right up to us and asked what we would like to drink.
She was young and very busy, after a few minutes I was looking for a menu. My friend went back to the fellow at the door just as they were closing them and asked about ordering food. She was told to order with the waitress. When I finally stopped her she told us that we couldn't order any food in there and the vending machines were outside, and right down the hall.  We didn't want to go out with the concert in progress.

Overall, the waitress was nice and tables were good and clean and we could see the show quite well and it was very good. There is going to be a Viva Las Vegas show at the end of March and I wouldn't mind tickets to that as well.

          All the best,

                            ARIES
