Band of the Year Nominate a local band that you think is above the rest. Think of the tunes but also of their stage presence and their showmanship... what about the sound... Not sure of some of the band names check out the SR bar calendar or the band contact page.
Musician of the Year Nominate any local musician in this category that you think is stellar both in performance and musical ability but in person as well. This person can be either a soloist or a member of any local band.
Bartender of the Year Next time you venture out and a bartender or server at any local bar or restaurant goes that extra mile nominate them for this award. We are looking to recognize these people that are overworked and underpaid but still smile everyday when you walk in that door.
New Category Security Person of the Year New Category This category was requested by many people last year so we'll see how many are nominated for this prestigious award. Everyone knows that most security people (aka bouncers) are underpaid and underappreciated for what they do. On top of it the real 'meatheads' make all the bouncers look bad so they have that to deal with too. So, if you know a bouncer that does a great job in a 'Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse' sort of way then please nominate them today!
Customer Service Person of the Year Any person who deals with the public on a day-to-day basis is providing Customer Service. Dealing with people has to be one of the most challenging jobs because your dealing with such an array of people day after day with issues. We all know people that should never work in customer service, but who do you know that was made for it... that dealing with people just comes naturally to them... If you see that person that exceeds in this profession nominate them for this award.
Business of the Year Nominate a local business based on their quality of service, the staff, their layout (if applicable) and their ability to satisfy your overall needs as a consumer. Any type of business can be nominated no matter how big or small.
Person of the Year Nominate any local person for this category. The first 3 years we had city councillor Joe Murray; Shawn McKnight of Artwalk and Jim Miller formerly of the Sarnia Observer. Last year local Musician/active participant in various charities and all around nice guy Glenn MacKinnon took home the award. Your nominee doesn't have to be someone well known in the public eye, it can be the guy at your corner store, your bartender, your neighbour, your doctor, a co-worker, your buddy ... you are welcome to nominate anyone that you think is just an all around great person.

SR Awards Guidelines & Deadlines: 1. One vote & nomination per person per category. You can easily list nominations/votes all on one e-mail. 2. Any paper votes that are not signed are not counted.
How it works: November 2008 - Nominations via e-mail December 2008 - Voting via e-mail & on paper ballot January 2009 - Winners announced Nominations are accepted for the month of November via e-mail. They are all tallied and the top 10 from each category move forward for voting. Top 10 will be announced Dec 1st. Then the slate is wiped clean and the voting begins for the entire month of December. I adjusted it this year to be December because it is such a social month that most of the top bands are easily found. All those that previously nominated someone can come back at that point and vote for their original nominations or you never know... maybe their will be some tough competition?? Time to recognize and appreciate those around us... Have You Smiled Today?
