Well it’s that time again folks. It’s
time for me Kodiac P Bear to make my rounds
to all the hot spots in Sarnia and let the
people know what’s going on. Last Saturday the Trinity Lounge was the place to
be, there was a CD release party of an up and coming band called The New Fat,
which has less cholesterol than The Old Fat.
Upon arrival at the Trinity Lounge
which still looks very similar to the last bar that was there, now what was the
name of that bar…..Anyways being in familiar surrounding’s finding a place to
watch the band was not a problem, especially since we were there early. The beer
was cold and the tunes were cranked, everything to start a party off right. As
for
the
type of people that were there, let’s just say there was a diverse crowd, and if
“people watching”
is your thing this would definitely be the bar for that. The Trinity Lounge
reminded me of the kind of place you might find down some side street in
Toronto, which is great especially in this city where all the bars tend to clone
one another. After all variety is the spice of life.
Now great times have a dull moments in them and this night was no exception, before the band went up to play, the crowd listened to someone go up and read a poem for 10 minutes. Now like I said earlier variety is the spice of life but this kind of variety would be comparable to paprika, no real flavour and is boring as hell by its self. This moment in time that I witnessed was comparable to something my parents may have attended in the 50’s daddy-o. Also I would have to disagree with this young fellow since there are many things better than a blow gun, like for instance Beer is better than the blow gun. I wish for those 10 minutes of my life back. Have to give the kid credit though he did have the jam to go up there and recite a poem in front of a full room of his peers.
The New Fat took the stage last. This was a very interesting band since you don’t see too many bands wearing horns with out a bassist. I know what your thinking, what kind of band has no bassist, well either that or your asking what kind of band wears horns; lets just say this band pulled off both quite well. Now the sound system wasn’t that great, but they still put on a rocking show. The lyrics in the one song were about him burning down his house then he is going to burn mine down too, although I may not want them to come over to my house for a marshmallow roast I would definitely go see them again, there is a lot of talent I feel in this band and I can’t wait till the next time they play in this area.
As always these are the Bear’s thoughts not yours
