Duckapacruiza

August/2003

Wow! What a great party! Friday Night, August 29th I had the opportunity to come aboard the Macassa Bay and partake in "Duckapacruiza" featuring an amazing band called "The Room". This bash was sponsored by The Guy's Store & The Lazy Duck and everyone we saw had a blast!

First, they filled the boat which is always nice! Makes for a warmer crowd cause the air was cool as the night progressed. If you stayed in the middle it was great, lol! I've been on the Macassa Bay a few times and as always the crew is pleasant and efficient and they really seem to care about their customers. This cruise was a little different then the others I've been on as this time they loaded the people right up a stairway to the top deck. That was great cause first people could hit the bar, then find their seat, therefore it kept the traffic down as people seated immediately and had no reason to move. Smart thinking! The band started as the boat left the dock & played continually throughout the evening with lots of old & new rock. Plus they played lots of great tunes from the Tragically Hip! People were dancing right away and as the night progressed people danced in the aisles! It was an awesome crowd, much like those who hang at The Duck but there was also quite an age range which was nice to see. All ages seem to be equally enjoying themselves.

One thing I noticed about the band is they were very sociable, and not just amongst themselves. They chatted to each other on stage and seemed to be a very good mix plus during the breaks they didn't just huddle in a circle as some bands do, but they walked around and mingled with everyone, making sure they were having a good time. That was nice to see, I would definitely see them again.

As an added bonus, like this great cruise wasn't enough fun, we all got invited back to a  private party at The Lazy Duck. Too Cool~ be totally rude not to go, lol. So, the Macassa Bay docked and off we went to the Lazy Duck. Surprisingly there was no line up and we showed our ticket and off we went up to the top floor paying no cover charge. I must admit I don't really frequent the The Lazy Duck so it had been a while since I had been up there but the room looked great! The band beat us there and was just about all set up as the room was filling at a steady pace. We got a good table facing the bands and the service was good & the place looked very clean. They handed out bowls of chips to some tables and the band started. They started this session with Stairway to Heaven and they sounded great! Very impressed. Like that wasn't enough they followed it with Come Together! These are both tunes that many an artist have made sound like crap and they pulled it off! Kuto's to you Gentlemen! It was a terrific evening and this reviewer highly recommends any future parties featuring The Room, hosted by the Guy's Store or at either The Lazy Duck on on board the Macassa Bay!
